‘Reaching Them to Teach Them’

After years of tutoring students of all ages and grade levels, I’ve developed a “reaching them to teach them” style that revolves around each child’s personality and needs.

Learning what makes students’ “tick”--their likes and dislikes (favorite foods, superheroes, siblings, books, pets, and movies)--helps me create fun, interactive lessons that keep students engaged. Our goal is still to complete necessary work and assignments, but I give students plenty of wiggle room to share side stories and spontaneous ideas in the process.

Students’ academic success grows with their self-confidence (and vice-versa), so I give lots of gentle encouragement and virtual pats on the back in our sessions. I like providing patient, nonjudgmental support that enhances each student’s path to success.

As a longtime Petaluman and mother of two, I’ve had extensive experience with our local education community--both as a parent and instructor. From both perspectives, I love watching as students begin trusting their ability as capable learners and thinkers, and their confidence blossoms.
